At the 80th annual West Virginia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Charleston, educator and community arts advocate Kathleen Fox was announced as one of the newest members of the WVMEA Hall of Fame.
This designation recognizes educators who have developed outstanding school music programs, made significant contributions to music education in the state and have a minimum of 15 years of music service in West Virginia.
A graduate of John Marshall High School and West Virginia University, Fox is a celebrated music educator in Marshall County Schools. She has written numerous grants securing musical instruments and instructional tools for classrooms in Marshall County. Fox currently teaches General Music and Vocal Music at Glen Dale Elementary School.
Prior to being inducted in the WVMEA Hall of Fame, she was named WV Society for General Music Teacher of the Year, Marshall County Schools Teacher of the Year, and was a finalist for West Virginia Teacher of the Year.
Fox has served as a board member of the West Virginia Music Educators Association for the past 14 years, serving as President in 2015-2017. While on the board, she has filled seats as All-State Children’s Chorus Co-chair, Society for General Music President and currently serves as Music in Our Schools Month Chair. Her advocacy efforts were celebrated with a certificate of recognition from Governor Jim Justice in 2022. She has represented West Virginia’s music educators at several national events.
Her enthusiastic involvement within the community confirms her commitment to the arts is not limited to the classroom. She is a familiar face at the Strand Theatre where she serves as a member of the Board of Directors, a volunteer group striving to inspire, engage, and entertain the community through diverse programming. Fox was a member of the City of Moundsville’s Arts and Culture Commission from 2019-2024. The commission aims to promote artistic and cultural initiatives by planning events that enhance Moundsville’s artistic and cultural scene.
She is a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, where she cantors for weekly mass. Fox performs in the valley’s premiere steel drum band, Steel Cassa. She is a member of the Ladies League of Marshall County and Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society whose members are recognized as outstanding Women Educators.
