Glen Dale Elementary School celebrated American Veterans Wednesday afternoon, just a few days ahead of Veterans Day, with a program at Glen Dale City Park. The presentation included student readers, a patriotic sing-along and a parade of flags.

The staff at Glen Dale Elementary School faithfully engage their students by planning creative learning activities aligned with improving literacy skills. In the spirit of that goal, students in grades 3-5 responded to a series of writing prompts based upon Veterans Day themes. Those who attended the program heard some of the completed projects.

GDES Music teacher Kathy Fox explained, “We understand the importance of giving our students an opportunity to use their voice. Their ideas, thoughts, and feelings matter. It is our hope that we will strengthen their capacity to grow as student leaders by participating in a program that celebrates their voice through spoken and sung text.”

Fox supports Marshall County Schools’ commitment to educating students and building communities. She added, “Observing Veterans Day is a strong connection to that mission. As we gather together to honor our Veterans, we are modeling behaviors that we hope will last for a lifetime. Our beautiful Glen Dale City Park is the perfect site to instill these values.”
