Glen Dale Elementary Student Wins PBS Writing Contest

Zoe reads her award-winning book to the Glen Dale Elementary kindergarten students.

Zoe Zervos can add award-winning author to her list of accomplishments during the 2017-2018 school year. The Glen Dale Elementary student recently claimed the top spot in the third grade division of the annual West Virginia Public Broadcasting Writers Contest.

Her entry titled “What If?” examines what it would be like to be someone or something else. She also did all of the illustrations for the story.

Marshall University Education majors along with teachers from around the Mountain State served as judges for the contest. Zervos was awarded a certificate and an Amazon gift card for her first place submission.

Her story is posted on the West Virginia Public Broadcasting website and will later be published in a book with all other 2018 winners.

The contest is a partnership of WVPB and WQED and is funded by EQT Corporation.
